http://www.achievement.org/autodoc/page/mom0int-1
Divided into three sections, Profile, Biography, and Interview, this "eye-appealing,
well-organized" site gives an excellent overview of the life and writings of Native American writer, N. Scott Momaday. Teachers and students can gather information on his writing career and major themes of his
works. The site includes insights into his Pulitzer Prize-winner, House Made of Dawn,
as well as the personal life of an author. While there are no lesson plans or suggestions for use, the content lends itself to classroom examination. The site is attractive, easily navigated and cleanly designed. The many photos and quick-time videos of the author are a bonus.
Overall Rating: 4Angst Grrl! N. Scott Momaday
http://www.angstgrrl.com/intelligensia/authors/momaday/momaday.html
A good source for links to other information, this site connects to
annotated bibliographies of the novels House Made of Dawn and The Way to Rainy Mountain; a bibliography of interview articles; information about the Kiowa Nation and language; and a study guide for
House Made of Dawn. Teachers would be interested in the bibliographies and study guide but no other support material is offered. While the bibliographies would be of interest to the student, the
information is not online and would be difficult to acquire. The site is pleasant and easy to navigate. Overall Rating: 3The West: N. Scott Momaday (Keeper of the Flame)
http://www.kteh.org/programs/thewest/momaday.html
The site focuses primarily on The West, an 8-part documentary, and Momaday's
collaboration with filmmaker Ken Burns on the project. In addition, teachers and students would find of interest his brief biography and the Indian history he has preserved. The site offers a fair amount of
information to teachers and students, concentrating mainly on the preservation of Indian culture and Momaday's contributions to American literature. Easy to navigate, the site links to biographies of those
involved in the production as well as guides to the series. Overall Rating: 2 |
